It is high time that proper steps are taken to put a stop to the reckless driving of motor-cars in the narrow streets of our thickly populated town. Only yesterday, a poor old beggar very narrowly escaped from being run over by a motor-car going at full speed. He was crossing the street when a car came dashing along at a speed of ninety kilometres an hour. Such reckless driving causes fatal accidents to women and children trying to cross the roads.
It is true that regulations regarding the speed limit do exist. But unless the police are strict in enforcing them, what do the drivers care about these regulations? The police seem to take little or no notice of offenders. And so, motor-car accidents are almost a daily occurrence.

The market has no drains and not single dustbin is placed garbage inside to put. The poor people, being deprived of sanitary amenities in their houses, dump all the rubbish into the lane. The sweepers too are not doing their work properly. The garbage heaps are there all over and it has become the breeding place of flies, mosquitoes and disease spreading germs.
I am afraid if suitable measures are not taken immediately we shall have a terrible outbreak of epidemic.

While riding back, possibly because I was preoccupied with my loss, I missed a traffic signal at the next crossing and crashed into a car. Now my leg is in a cast and my scooter is badly damaged.
Had I remembered your phone number I would have called you, shared my tale of double misfortune and explained my mysterious absence. have borrowed my friend Ardhendu’s phone temporarily. But having lost all the contact numbers along with my phone, I cannot reach out to anyone. I am sure you are very upset with me – I have not received a single call from you in the last couple of days. But I remembered your address and lacking other means to reach you, I am sending you my apology via snail mail. I am sure you’ll forgive my rudeness in not turning up for your dinner when you read this and any misgivings you might have had about my behaviour will be clarified. remain the most ardent admirer of your cooking skills – I do honestly believe you should apply for the Master Chef competition! I am writing as a concerned citizen to bring the condition of the local children’s playground to your attention. In a city where green spaces are fast disappearing, this is the only park with a playground within a radius of two kilometres. However, the playground is littered with plastic and concrete waste from nearby construction sites. Further, the swings have rusted and have sharp edges which can injure any child. The other playground rides such as the merry-go-round and the slide are also in a state of acute disrepair. The overall atmosphere is dismal and discourages children from going there.
I would request you to undertake an initiative to ensure regular maintenance of the park. As a first step, we require a thorough cleaning-up of the park. Installing garbage bins and putting up signs discouraging littering would be an important step and would also go a long way in keeping the grounds clean. Repairing the swings and other rides will also ensure the safety of the children.
Increasingly, children are becoming addicted to video games, television and other forms of entertainment leading to an inactive lifestyle. Having a functional playground will encourage them to play in open spaces. I hope the playground will soon be restored to its former glory under your able supervision.

I would like to draw the attention of the government and the people to the problem of reckless driving on Kolkata roads, through your esteemed daily.
I have noticed with grave concern that vehicles on city roads are becoming dangerously reckless these days. There are rules against reckless driving, but these rules fail to save human lives when we fail to show concern for our fellow beings. Time is surely precious but human life is priceless.
There is an unhealthy competition among buses and other vehicles on the roads, to overtake one another. Pedestrians fall victim to this mindless competition.
Such practices cannot be stopped merely by implementing rules. Passengers as well as pedestrians must take a stand against this. The collective protest of passengers against such reckless driving will put a check on the drivers.
